There are rumors going around about the flu at NCCC. The fact is we have 2, count ‘em, 2 confirmed cases of Type A flu at the Chanute campus that we are aware of. We have activated our plan for these two students and we are helping them. At the same time we are limiting other students’ exposure to them. We have reports of flu like symptoms from a handful of other students, but these are not confirmed cases of Type A flu.
So what can you do to help:
1. Calm fellow students down. We only have 2 confirmed cases of flu. Try to head off the rumors. Another rumor going around is that we about to close the campus due to the flu, and while I could use a day off, we are not considering that. In fact the CDC (the federal Center for Disease Control) is now not recommending ANY closures at all for any school/college. Closure has seemingly no effect on stopping the spread of the flu.
2. Germ Warfare - Take the battle to the Germs!
a. Keep washing your hands and using the hand sanitizer. We have increased our disinfecting of all frequently touched surfaces, but still, wash your hands.
b. Cover your cough.
c. Social distancing (stay 3-6 feet away from others if possible)
3. If you get sick, please let your instructors know and do not come to class. If you have a fever, stay away from me. In fact you are supposed to stay home for 24 hours after the fever ends.
4. If you have questions, please contact Dale Ernst on the Ottawa campus, or Eric Tincher at Chanute.
Thanks everyone and stay well.
