This theory course is designed to introduce the student to the broad field of surgical technology and provide a professional, ethical, and knowlledgeable foundation to grow in surgical technology. It will provide the student with knowledge concerning the scope of practice of surgical technology and how to begin to function in the health care setting. Upon completion of this course, thestudent will demonstrate understanding in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains related to principles and practice of surgical technology as outline in the current edition of the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology, as indicated by their final exam and competency scores. PREREQUISITE: Students must be at least 18 years of age to enroll in SURG 100 Introduction to Surgical Technology or be 17 years of age with guardian consent and signed minimum age waiver.
