Description

This theory course is designed to introduce the student to surgical procedures and the anatomy involved in ophthalmic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, thoracic and pulmonary surgery, cardiac surgery, pediatric surgery and neurosurgery. Incorporating theory, laboratory and clinical practice, the student will learn to analyze, select and prepare instrumentation, equipment, and other supplies, for specific procedures within those specialties. Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate understanding in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains related to principles and practice of surgical technology as outlined in the current edition of the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology, as indicted by their final exam and competency scores. PREREQUISITES: SURG 106 Surgical Technology Clinical I and SURG 202 Surgical Procedures I. COREQUISITE: SURG 206 Surgical Technology Clinical II.
