Mental Health Nursing (NURS 261)

Description

This course is designed for the student to utilize the nursing process in promoting an eclectic approach to the mental illness/mental health continuum. The student will appraise the elements of bio/psycho/social and spirituality to achieve client outcomes, and to differentiate between health patterns encountered in mental health nursing. Concepts of professional ethics, exposure to life stressors, communication techiniques, pharmacology, and pathology will be explored and applied to clients of all age groups within acute, chronic, and community mental health care settings. Therapeutic communication and intervention is the common thread throughout this course. Prerequisite: NURS 111, NURS 121, NURS 131, NURS141, NURS122 Corequisite: NURS 251
